Mastering Moveable Feast in a Monsoon

Like my fellow volunteer, Josh, my experience with my latest delivery was also a little "cloudy," with a dab of "sunshine." To read Josh's experience, click here.
On the morning of Thursday, October 1st,  the sun was shining, and the view of Willy T. Library was nothing short of fascinating as I stared out of my window, counting how many minutes I had left to stay in bed (by that time, my snooze button was exhausted). However, I then remembered my motivation for getting out of bed that morning: I was going to make a difference in someone's life today.
When I finally dragged myself out of bed, I contacted my fellow volunteers, Mackenzie and Rebecca, and made plans on volunteering at Moveable Feast that evening. It was a beautiful day, and parents were filing in as it was the university's parent's weekend that following weekend. "It is going to be such an awesome day to deliver these meals," I thought. Little did I know, the weather had a different agenda.
After class, Mackenzie, Rebecca, and I packed our things and began the journey to K lot. Below is an actual photo of myself making the walk to Commonwealth Stadium.

As if the mile walk wasn't enough.. it then began to rain...

Once we finally approached my car, despite the weather, we were still just as determined and excited to nourish some empty stomachs that evening. Below is the ACTUAL picture of us about to deliver meals. (Silly reader, I'm not a golden retriever!)

Mackenzie, Rebecca, and I pulled into Moveable Feast with smiles on our faces-the yucky weather was not going to bring us down today! There was people in need and we had the means to help them! We began quickly packaging the meals into carry-on totes, specifying which meals were "special," and looking over our list of deliveries for the evening. As I scanned through the list, I quickly began to panic as there were twenty-six, TWENTY-SIX, families to feed today. As the driver, I was worried that my navigational skills would not suffice to find these twenty-six houses, as I am from a one stop-light town in Eastern Kentucky, but I quickly dismissed that thought and put my faith in the Lord that He would keep us safe as we were doing this for a good cause. We then packaged up the meals into my trunk and put our first address in the GPS.
As it began to downpour, I was timid to drive any further - but then remembered why we were doing this work, and continued driving. We laughed, sang (rapped), and shared memories that ultimately built our friendship, all while delivering hot meals to deserving, appreciative people. Four hours later, we had fed 26 recipients of Moveable Feast and their families. Because of Rebecca's navigation through downtown Lexington, Mackenzie's bravery to run to each house in the pouring rain, and my (might I say superb *sarcasm*) driving skills, otherwise empty stomachs came home to a hot meal.
I'm not saying this volunteer opportunity is easy, but I am saying it is worth it. The recipients thank us for helping them, but I always thank them for helping me. I am so grateful for this opportunity because that night, I went to sleep knowing that I made a difference in someone's day. Might I add, that was the best sleep I have ever gotten.
Until next time!

P.S. Here is rare footage found of Mackenzie and Rebecca after I pulled out of Moveable Feast:
